The ODDS Project (1991-1992)

Synopsis

Object Oriented Databases for Software Engineering Environments

Summary

The ODDS project reviews the state of the art in the area of object-oriented and next generation database systems. The goal is to study to what extent these new systems meet the need of a complex application domain, i.e. software engineering environments. The aim therefore is to provide insight into the question whether object-oriented or next generation database systems can act as a "repository" (a platform for storage, communication and implementation) of software development environments. In the course of this study, a framework for comparing database systems will be developed. This framework will also be used to make an inventory of repository requirements from the software engineering perspective. Bij developing and mapping test-cases, hands-on experience will be gained with existing commercial and academic database systems.
