Note that this is an outdated page. I made it sometime in 1996 when there wasn't much to find on the web.
Cricket is a fantastic sport played mostly - though not exclusively - in the countries of the Commonwealth. It's a complex game with a lot of rules and tradition, and it also comes in different flavors (5-day matches, one-day matches, etc.).
The ultimate resource for cricket information on the net is www.cricket.org (formerly the CricInfo Database, but who remembers that now). It allows you to find out anything from match schedules to scorecards and (live) reports.
There's also a mirror-site in the UK for faster access from Europe.
One thing I really like about cricket is the obsession with statistics. There are really subtle categories like "English bowlers that take 10 wickets in their debut test match against the Windies at Lords" or "batsmen that made the fastest 50 runs in test matches in terms of balls faced". And what's even better, the statistics have been maintained for more than a century, so that quite regularly you will find references to records from the late 19th century
The Cricinfo server has a lot of these and other statistics. PriceWaterhouse Coopers maintain ratings of (test) cricketers which can be found here. You could maintain your own statistics with stuff like this.
I'd really like to include references to pages dedicated to famous cricketers. For now, the only one I know of is a page dedicated to Donald Bradman the great Australian batsman. If you know of more cricket celebrity pages, please let me know.
Some pictures of cricketers (in action) are available ata The Odyssey World Cricket Page. Ben Anderson's Cricket Page also offers links to pictures. The cricinfo database also holds a lot of pictures.
There are some newsgroups on cricket, like rec.sport.cricket rec.sport.cricket.scores and rec.sport.cricket.info .
Check out the page of Ian Dyer who sell books on cricket, including the Wisden almanacs.
Yes, some Dutch play cricket, though I'm not one of them. There actually is a complete set of pages dedicated to Dutch cricket. Some Dutch players play county cricket in England, and I'd like to find out more about them. Asvion is a Dutch cricket team that is present on the net.
For cricket in Australia, you can refer to the Australian Cricket Page. Other country-based information is available for Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka Pakistan India Switzerland Sweden. The Western Provinces Cricket Association (South-Africa) is also on the net.
There is a page for the Macquarie University Cricket Club maintained by Jason Ford. Yorkshire County Cricket Club is on the net too.
Several people maintain cricket pages on the web. Some of the ones that might be of interest are:
